Why does bloating affect my face so much?
Three things are happening, and they all show up in the mirror first.
Water retention. High sodium, low water, and alcohol pull fluid into the soft tissue around your eyes, jaw, and cheeks. That's where it pools — your face has the thinnest skin on your body.
Cortisol. Bad sleep and chronic stress raise cortisol, which makes your body hold onto sodium and water. It also stores fat around the cheeks. This is why you can look heavier in the face without gaining a pound.
Inflammation. Dairy, alcohol, and processed food trigger low-grade inflammation. Inflammation = puffy. Your jawline disappears, your eyes look smaller, your skin looks tired.
How fast will I see results if I fix this?
3 to 10 days for the main reduction. Most of facial bloat is water and inflammation, and both clear fast once the inputs change.
Day 2–3: you'll notice your face less puffy in the morning. Day 5–7: your jawline starts to come back. Day 10: people who see you regularly will say something — they won't know what changed, but they'll notice.

Is this the same as losing fat?
No. Bloat is fluid and inflammation. Fat is fat. They look similar in the face, but they behave completely differently.
